Hello, Stranger! Hello, new Sapporo & Hokkaido!

Asahi Art Festival 2015

In recent years, the number of foreign tourists has been rapidly increasing in Hokkaido, while the population is becoming intensely concentrated in Sapporo.  To us, “Stranger” is not only a foreigner visiting us from afar, but also someone next door for us.  We will do some fieldworks in our living sphere with artists who have unique perspectives.  In some cases, we ourselves will become the “strangers” by visiting distant places or Sakhalin, to view our Sapporo and Hokkaido from outside. The purpose of this project is to scoop up different cultures and various perspectives from our neighborhood.  At the same time, we will introduce “how Sapporo and Hokkaido are seen from outside” to local people.

SAPPORO Far East Art Research Project

This is a project to explore, think about and develop a city of Sapporo and an island of Hokkaido in the "Far East" while looking down the world map with a bird's-eye view. Connecting organizations and individuals working in various genres in Hokkaido, including Sapporo, we aim to create opportunities for new collaborations and new movements. “Far East area” is broad, but we focus on Sakhalin which is closely related to Hokkaido, and the Southeast Asia, from where a large number of tourists visit Hokkaido, in particular.
