The movie of Shimbun-sha 2015 “BAKENEKO - Magic Cats”

Asahi Art Festival 2015

"Magic is worked on a town." - We have this thing in the root of the various communication to which SHINBUNSHA performed from 2010.Of the Japanese classical literature "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden" - story of "Magic Cats", Ashio-machi is one in the stage of it. We quote this to our project. We'd make a document picture work. But it includes the plot with which a movie is made. It will be a boundary with a performed thing and daily life. This is a "a movie is made, "movie"" project. A "mache" and a workshop in the community are wrestling variously and are gathering to movie.

This project began in 2010 when one artist renovated one of former newspaper delivery shops. People including children in the town were drawn to the space named "Shimbun-sha," but, no one knew the purpose or the future direction of this space. Children who came to Shimbun-sha had different ideas for this place such as; “I want to make it into a café,” or “I want to make it into a gathering space for everybody like a park.” "Shimbun-sha" became like a "project" as the objectives were set to draw tourists and ask other people in the community for the ideas how to use this space. However, it always reflected children’s and people’s ideas and was always changing its directions. For the time being, the focus is on its irregularly happening Café Project. We also do events where we dye cloths with local plants and make films. Children, adults, and artists are all in equal positions coming to this space.
