For the past 10 years, Nishinoshima town in the Oki Islands has been carrying out art activities frequently.  Two years ago, mainland and local artists began to focus on "putting a spotlight on things forgotten."  For the third year of this  project, we would like to ensure that the works done by helpers and supporters in the community can be shared by the current and the next generation. Our main activities:1) Mainland artists Takeshi Okada and Shiro Tajima will create artworks with local Oki stones.2) Regarding these stone art pieces mentioned above, we will conduct a workshop and an outdoor exhibition in conjunction with the Oki Islands Global Geopark Project. 3) A food workshop will be held with local ladies who will share traditional cooking methods with people who have moved to Oki (I-turn) and those who have moved back to Oki (U-turn).4) A special book exhibition (Hon-no-tenrankai) will be held with a focus on avid readers and special books. All these activities will be recorded in our end-of-year journal.

Profile

This group was established in 2006 with the aim of bringing artists from the mainland to the Oki Islands to actively collaborate with local people and seek for connections that will have positive benefits for both the artists and the local community. The main theme of our activities is to place a spotlight on special things that have been lost or forgotten and share them with the community in the form of art.
